The Fight over Redistricting!
Last week, I was interviewed on Fox News about Maryland Democrats threatening to gerrymander our congressional maps further, while blaming Texas.
The truth is, states like Maryland have caused this. Before 2002, Maryland's congressional delegation was fairly drawn, splitting it between four Republicans and four Democrats. Democrats redrew the maps, and the delegation went 6/2. In 2010, they redrew again, and now we have only one Republican Congressman, yet two of the last four Governors have been Republicans. Republicans consistently pull 35%- 40% in state-wide races in Maryland, yet Democrats enjoy a congressional delegation that has a 7-to-1 advantage.
That does not seem fair, and for a state like Maryland, which heavily relies on federal funding, having its entire congressional delegation in the minority party when Republicans control Congress is economic suicide.
The one thing that has become painfully obvious is that if what's good for Maryland citizens conflicts with the agenda of the Democratic Party, the MD Democrat elected officials will choose the Party every time.
