Today, I am proud to announce my candidacy for re-election to the Maryland House of Delegates in 2026, representing the great people of Northern St. Mary's County.

Serving in the Maryland General Assembly, a body that traces its roots back to 1634, has been the honor of my lifetime. I've fought tirelessly for our shared values, delivering real results for our community. As your Delegate, I've stood firm on the front lines, defending liberty, safety, and prosperity against the tide of socialist creep. We've proven that conservative principles aren't just ideals; they're the strategy for a stronger Maryland.
Let me remind you of what we've achieved together. When our roads and bridges were crumbling, I didn't sit on the sidelines; I led the charge to secure funding for major highway projects that connect our families to jobs, schools, and homes more safely and efficiently. I authored and passed the Right to Try 2.0 legislation, cutting through bureaucratic red tape to empower patients and doctors to access life-saving treatments without government interference. To protect our local businesses from corporate giants, I passed laws that level the playing field for independent pharmacies, rein in skyrocketing prescription costs, and ensure consumers have real choices. And when endless delays stalled property tax appeals, I addressed the issue with legislation that guarantees fair and timely resolutions.
When businesses were shut down and state college students faced the choice between continuing their education or taking a potentially harmful vaccine, I took action. I organized the opposition and successfully ended the mandate.
Yet, I've also shown that when our goals align, principled leadership still means working across the aisle when it benefits Marylanders. As a gold star-rated conservative, I stayed true to my conservative roots. But I have co-sponsored 135 Democrat-led bills that became law this term, because governing and good ideas transcend party lines.
Maryland faces serious affordability challenges. Inflation shrinks paychecks, crime threatens neighborhoods, and electric bills soar. Governor Wes Moore and Annapolis Democrats burned through a $5 billion surplus, then slammed us with $2 billion in new taxes and over 340 fee hikes, making life unaffordable and forcing families to flee. This year, Maryland is projected to have yet another $1.4 billion deficit again. The Comptroller's "Housing & the Economy" report confirms residents are fleeing, with over 2.3 million departing in the last decade. Yet, instead of addressing the underlying issues of affordability and why citizens leave, Annapolis Democrats focus on trampling local zoning laws to build housing for international migrants. Marylanders deserve better than domestic and economic policies that prioritize politics over people and tear apart families by forcing lifelong residents to relocate to another state.
As a founding member and Chairman of the Maryland Freedom Caucus, I'm committed to putting our citizens first and offering solutions to reverse our state's decline. We'll champion liberty by slashing the red tape that stifles builders, reducing fees that inflate costs, and reforming government by removing top-down mandates that ignore local needs. We'll prioritize safety by fully funding law enforcement and rejecting radical "defund the police" agendas. We'll cut taxes, foster job growth, and ensure government works for you, not against you. Together, we can build a Maryland where families can afford to stay, businesses can thrive, and opportunities are plentiful.
This isn't just politics for me, it's personal. As a husband and a father and as a representative who's listened to your stories and fought for solutions, I know what's at stake. One constituent told me, "When I had nowhere else to turn, Matt Morgan didn't just hear my problem, he fixed it." That's the leadership I'll bring to another term: integrity, action, and unwavering defense of those who can't fight alone.
If re-elected, I will continue to offer solutions to the challenges Marylanders face.
I'll keep my promises: No silence in crises, no risk-averse politics. Together, we'll make Maryland freer, safer, and more prosperous, one where government serves the people, innovation flourishes, and our children inherit a brighter future. Join me in this fight.
