Property Tax -Transferred to New Owners- Appeals

Have you purchased a new home or property and thought that the taxes are too high? You file a property tax appeal within the time limit set, but the government takes forever to schedule the hearing while you continue to pay the higher property tax?

I have a bill with bipartisan support to fix this problem.

I am happy to introduce: HB 488: Property Tax -Transferred to New Owners- Appeals

Requiring SDAT to process tax appeal applications on new home purchases within 90 days after receiving all the necessary paperwork.

If the appeal hearing has not taken place within the 90 days, the tax will be assessed at purchase price.

This bill seeks to resolve the issue of SDAT taking undue time to process appeals, resulting in the property owner paying a higher rate while awaiting resolution.

HB 488 is scheduled for a hearing February 24 in the House Ways and Means Committee

Testimony for this bill is welcome; please contact my office.
